Birmingham City University, Graduate Preview Catwalk show

SO honoured to have been on the judging panel for @bcu_fashion graduate Preview Catwalk show and to pick the overall winner for the Global Industry category based on my career background.

The level was so high which made it very difficult to judge but I took my responsibility and made my decision 😬

I have loved getting back into this world and seeing what our new generation of designers and future brand owners have to offer and let me tell you, there is a lot of talent out there. It is worth noting though that creativity can flourish more easily in a context where you are not thinking about putting those designs into production afterwards because I think then we would have had to have a different discussion 😉

I also had an amazing discussion with the senior lecturer about the future of fashion and garment design, prepping students for the next step and entrepreneurship. This is a subject that sometimes gets missed on a fashion degree (watch this space…) which very much focuses on the design side which we all know is only half the battle and while I won’t say setting up on your own is easy (because not true) with the internet and ever progressing digital world, there is much more possibility for young designers/entrepreneurs to set up on their own without needing a huge investment behind them.

Huge congrats and good luck to the cohort of 2022!
